Alexa Cabral's single “Sleep all day” delves into relationship turmoil

Updated: Apr 15, 2021

Boston teen pop artist Alexa Cabral’s new pop infused single, “Sleep all day”, produced by Soul Power Productions, CA, delves into the frustrations and emotions culminating from a relationship split, and how it floods you in memories you can’t shake. You feel the tossing and turning through the relationship phases, and the need to escape the psychological hoops, and flee and face a future absent of crushing turmoil. The power pop song’s hook loaded chorus, “I been sleeping all day, and I’m crying all night, cause I can’t do anything right”, provides the visual and the emotions of the shattering anguish. The song rewrites the bad boyfriend story and how the heartbreak cuts deep into your soul. “Lie with me here all night, cause I don’t even know if I’m alright”, speaks to the self-doubt she will be able to move on and recover from the relationship.

"The instrumental relies heavily upon trap-inspired drums, plucked synths, and chords that evoke some melancholy. Its simple combination of punchy and soft elements portrays the emptiness and isolation of sleeping the whole day away and then waking up at night to face strong emotions all alone. The lyrics are juxtaposed with a catchy but refreshingly unique melody, and a fun upbeat instrumental. Like a secondary layer of emotion, it's the sound of processing, learning to let go and move on, despite the frustrations voiced in the lyrics."-Owen Korzec, producer/Performers on the go

The song was produced by Soul Power Productions in Los Angeles, CA, and written by Maya B. The studio owners, Soulshock & Karlin, formerly of Denmark, have written and produced hits for many top artists such as Brandy, Usher, Monica, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Craig David and Sting in "Rise & Fall", and 2Pac in "Do For Love", "Me Against The World", "I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto", "Old School", and "Baby Don't Cry." Their remix credits include Usher's "U Got It Bad," and "Brokenhearted" by Brandy and Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men. They have been the audio producer for Pink in "Missundaztood/Can't Take Me Home", and were writers and producers for top 40 hit "Leave get out with JoJo and top R&B hit "Truth is" with Fantasia. One of their top singles was #1 Whitney Houston's "Heartbreak Hotel", which received two Grammy nominations. Soulshock was a judge on the Danish version of The X Factor before becoming the in-house producer for the U.S. incarnation of the show.
