Mel Fine’s new song release, “In Between", is comfortable in its own skin

Mel Fine, 20-year-old singer songwriter and Berklee School of Music junior majoring in songwriting and production, spent the full day on June 29th writing and producing a new song, “In between”, which was released on SoundCloud on June 30, 2020. The song is a reflection on developing a healthy unique identity and the transition of getting to the point where you are comfortable and in the right place so “it feels just right when you wear that suit and tie”. It is a journey of moving beyond the perceptions of others close to you, and arriving in a place where you belong, a space of your own and not “stuck between one of two sides”.

It is a beautiful emotionally reflected song of life’s discovery of one’s self and finding “comfort in your own skin”, and feeling good about becoming who you were meant to be. The song takes you through the adolescent experiences of the prom and Halloween, and how the color pink and makeup didn’t feel quite right.

Mel captures the emotions, through silky vocals that gracefully discover self-love and identity’s truth. With just the right mix of riffs and harmonies you feel the song open up and breath free.

Mel Fine’s, a contemporary R&B artist, uniquely blends elements of rhythm and blues, pop, soul, and hip hop in their music. They experiment with intricate layering and harmonies, a technique that brings cohesion to their diverse writing style. The passion for music reaches further than the stage. Mel is an advocate for the local LGBTQA community. The songs draw inspiration from struggles with friendship, identity, and confidence as well as their accomplishments.

Mel’s Sound Cloud:

“In Between” lyrics:

In between your boutineer sits on the table, dad buttons your sleeves, momma fixes your makeup, they don’t know you’re not their little prom queen.

Stare into the mirror, breathe reality in, maybe this is the moment you’ll find comfort in your own skin.

It’s time to tell yourself the truth about why dress shoes feel this good on you.

You’re in between the men you look up to and the woman they said you’d turn out to be, now you see you’re in between a question, an answer the person you know that you were meant to be, finally cause it feels just right when you wear that suit and tie.

Halloween you dressed up as a pirate when all your friends were in pink dreamed about cutting your hair short sweeping pretty girls off of their feet.

It’s time to tell the world the truth about why dresses don’t feel good on you.

You’re in between the men you look up to and the woman they said you’d turn out to be, now you see you’re in between a question, an answer the person you know that you were meant to be, finally cause it feels just right when you wear that suit and tie.

You’re not stuck in one of two sides give in to the signs.

You’re in between the men you look up to and the woman they said you’d turn out to be, now you see you’re everything a question, an answer the person you know that you were meant to be, finally cause it feels just right when you wear that suit and tie.
