Mel Fine wins Your Song original song competition
Updated: May 11, 2021
A panel of independent judges reviewed an impressive line up of original songs from many genres including pop, rap, indie and country for the Your Song original song competition, and the panel selected Mel Fine's song, "Alone together" as the winning song. Mel is the recipient of the recording/marketing prize valued at over $2,000.
Participating on the judging panel were Amanda McCarthy, winner of the 2019 New England Music Awards singer/songwriter of the year, Gerg Anidem, owner of Indie Scene Radio, and Marcia Macres, musician and co-owner of Chick Singers Night.
Mel Fine's quarantine-crush confession, "Alone Together", is the vibe-driven, guilty pleasure track all can relate to. With its infectious melody, honest storytelling, and masterfully positioned melodic hooks, the song brings new meaning to being "alone together." Mel's love for the loop pedal resonated throughout the song demonstrating crafted layering of harmonies, falsetto runs and background vocals. The song brilliantly cascades through the emotions reverberating from one coast to another, on a love which won't fade despite the existing distance.
The judge's enthusiasm for the song came through in their comments, "Wow! Great beat. Great lyrics. Fantastic in all judging categories. I just love Mel's voice and distinct sound. This song should be on radio now!"
Placing 2nd and 3rd in the competition were the sister pop duo Trisha & Thara for their song "Regret", and indie/pop singer songwriter Amelia Earnshaw for her submission "October". These artists will be recording soon with Brad Young at BKY Music, and Lit Honey Productions.
Mel plans to get to the studio soon and release the song in early 2021. This song will follow they/them debut single, "In between", which has 30,000 streams on Spotify. Mel is also in the duo group, Support Group, which has their first single "Call me crazy" which has compiled 39,000 streams, and a new single, "Blink of an eye", released on April 16, 2021.
Currently, Mel is a scholarship student at Berklee College of Music majoring in songwriting and music production and engineering. Mel is also the Vice President of the Berklee Songwriters Club. You may learn more about they/them music at https://melfinemusic.com/.
